Then ultimately, we got help from a mobile booster (paying more than half a lakh) which ramped up our signals and the internet was back on track.

PM Narender Modi, know that digital cover has not come to all of Goa, just as your demonetization was a gimmick that did not bring in digital transactions but brought death and long queues outside ATMs. Unconfirmed reports said over 100 deaths but Arun Jaitley only admitted to four in the Rajya Sabha (needless to mention, an RTI seeking information on the number of deaths was stalled by the Modi government).

You people who band together and take out protests against mobile towers probably don’t know, although many of you use a mobile while riding/driving/ turning corners/at traffic signals that no towers equals no signal. But we were the victims of the internet not being available and consequently our website Goanspirit.com went dormant sometime in mid-2014 after a successful run for about 18 months.

Incredible, isn’t it that it was not because we ran out of money (as someone cattily wondered) or that we were not willing to do the grind to give you a taste of Goa that tourists who cook on the road, drink on the beaches don’t care about, but we who live here do. And we were shining a mirror on politicians who never mean what they say and certainly do not do what they say.

Finally we turned to Goa government’s G-Wave, paid about Rs 6,000 for the cable to be put in and sat back and dreamt of getting digital again. About three weeks later, G-Wave said we thought it was 200 metres of cable but actually we need 2,000 metres of cable! Yes, seriously – the ZERO sum game. We got our money back, but no internet still. The dongle we had was iffy, particularly during monsoon.

Then ultimately, we got help from a mobile booster (paying more than half a lakh) which ramped up our signals and the internet was back on track.

But our troubles were still not over because our website got corrupted. So retrieval of content took a while. Meanwhile, we continued to pay domain charges of Rs 3,500 annually. But that’s how single-minded we were about getting Goanspirit back.

So we now offer you Goanspirit.com again in a redesigned format. Happy tracking! And PLEASE do give us your opinions as comments. Maka Goemcho mog asa.
